" . . . the placenta is a kind of language--perhaps our first one, our true mother tongue."

-Ocean Vuong

The placenta is incredible. Pure magic in flesh form. A temporary organ grown solely for the sake of supporting the gestation of new life.

Your Placenta Prepared

with Love and in ceremony

In Cariñosa’s Garden, the preparation of your placenta is honored as a ceremony. Held with love and care and within OSHA standard cleanliness, we prepare your placenta in the manner of your choosing and with keepsakes at your request.

Your placenta is picked up and capsules delivered to you. With drop off, you are welcome to a postpartum family check-in if you feel called.

Before a placenta encapsulation, the fresh placenta is in the middle of an altar on a circular gold dish. The placenta is surrounded by a candle, The Mastery of Love, an abalone with burning sage, tobacco, cedar, a tarot card, a statue of a mother.

Placentophagy: consumption of the placenta postpartum

The majority of mammals instinctively practice this in the wild, including cows, who are vegetarian otherwise!

The scientific and biological understanding lags. There’s limited, old, and poorly executed studies on placenta consumption and its benefits and risks for humans. The majority of our current understanding is primarily anecdotal. (More research, please!)

What research has informed us of:
👩‍🔬 hormones remain present in the placenta after processing
👩‍🔬progesterone and estradiol are present at high enough levels to have a physiologic impact
👩‍🔬 the APA (American Pregnancy Association) has found that placenta encapsulation has assisted with blood stabilization through oxytocin present
